John Klyza is a Polish-Australian screenwriter and multimedia specialist known for creative entrepreneurship in the realm of the wild, weird and imaginative. He wrote the screenplay for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s CABIN 28, directed by Andrew Jones in the United Kingdom. The film, based on one of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in American history, is a pulse-pounding thriller that follows the Sharp family who are terrorized at an isolated cabin by mysterious assailants. Upon its 2017 release it shot to UK’s Top 5 DVD sales.

He is creative manager of Retrosploitation, a boutique film distribution label dedicated to releasing modern independent genre movies on physical media. One of the titles was BLOOD DESERT, shot in 2004 by war-torn soldiers on the Kuwait/Iraq border. Another was I EAT YOUR SKIN, starring Bollywood queen Sunny Leone. John handles many aspects of releases, from designing covers to post-production work and producing special features – whatever it takes to get that sucka out. During ten years of effort over 80 releases have seen fruition in the marketplace.

John conducted scripting on the viral curio DOLL KILLER in 2013. The next year, darkly comedic CHEERLEADER CAMP 2 THE DEATH followed, as well as the potboiler character study called INVITATION TO DIE – which was more recently re-released to retail stores by Wild Eye Releasing as REUNION MASSACRE. He also wrote 2015’s SILENT NIGHT BLOODY NIGHT 2: REVIVAL – the sequel to the 1974 gothic Christmas horror progenitor, and hatched an entire multi-chapter franchise saga around it which he now shepherds as executive producer. The next completed chapter SILENT NIGHT BLOODY NIGHT PART 3D starring Lloyd Kaufman releases in 2023.

Peek a little further back into the past and John Klyza’s name is synonymous with the long-running SLEEPAWAY CAMP film franchise. As editor of the official website in his late teens, he was one of the primary heads behind the series’ resurgence as a cult classic franchise. In 2002 he was invited to Los Angeles to assist with producing the SURVIVAL KIT DVD Boxset for Anchor Bay Entertainment. The set, controversial for its “red cross” packaging was an immediate top seller, knocking PULP FICTION Special Edition off the charts. John was since drafted to write for several unrealized sequel projects, and produced SLEEPAWAY CAMP IV: THE SURVIVOR, supervising a painstaking multi-year editing process, resulting in the 2012 release of the ten-year old fabled film. In 2015 he produced the short WHATEVER HAPPENED TO MOLLY for MGM/Shout Factory’s SLEEPAWAY CAMP 2 blu-ray release and a follow-up, STEVE & MICHELLE GO TO HELL. John continues to work on top-secret SLEEPAWAY CAMP projects behind the scenes, yet to be announced.

The strange times of the 2020s saw John lean into its inherent challenges by guest recording and acting completely solo in a segment of 5G ZOMBIES, which received coverage on such far-flung places as The Drudge Report. He produced ISOLATION ACTIVITY locally, commissioning anthology stories by nearby and worldwide filmmakers within enclosed spaces to create a feature on-the-fly. He followed a similar process for 2023’s AMITYVILLE APOCALYPSE which spoofily skewered the out-of-control supernatural film series.

As the dreaded multi-hyphenate John has designed countless entertainment websites, ridden VHS’s declining years while a video clerk for various once-mighty chains, maintained vintage 16mm films for the National Film & Sound Archive, and served as a team leader for Screen Canberra’s Accelerator Pod film & television pitching program, guiding aspiring writers’ story development. Klyza balances out film projects with other creative contributions. He guest-authored a chapter in the acclaimed book EMPIRE OF THE B’S: THE MAD MOVIE WORLD OF CHARLES BAND in 2014.

John is the son of artist/director/mad scientist John Klyza, Snr. and lives in New South Wales, where he enjoys the hubris of writing in third-person. Good thing – because he’s currently working on his first novel.
